About Hypnosis...

Hypnosis comes from the Greek word for sleep ¨Hypnos¨, though the state of hypnosis is very dissimilar from sleep itself. It is a technique that has been used for a very long time and has been traced back to ancient Greeks, Babylonians and Egyptians.
Dr Frans Mesmer developed hypnosis for use during surgery and healing in the late 18th century. Hypnosis developed from this point to being used by doctors for painless dentistry and surgery and there were reports of hypnosis being used for painless amputations in the 1800’s. After WW1 hypnosis found more widespread use in helping personnel with traumatic mental problems.
In the 1950’s both British and American Medical Associations announced their support for hypnosis as a useful form of therapy.
Nowadays, hypnosis has been the subject of a huge amount of research, resulting in a highly developed form of therapy. It is commonly used by people from all walks of life to overcome issues in their life, from phobias to overcoming irrational fears. Sexual problems can be overcome using hypnosis as can skin disorders and much more.

There are many misconceptions about hypnosis, mostly dating from its non-ethical use by stage hypnotists in the early part of the 20th century. It is very important to know that a Hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything against your own code of ethics.
Hypnosis is a natural altered state of mind, one where you are very relaxed. Your conscious mind becomes quiet, allowing your powerful sub-conscious mind to come to the fore. It can then be worked on easily without interruption from the conscious mind during the therapy process. This allows the sub-conscious mind to be reprogrammed according to your desires. Hypnosis will help the conscious and sub-conscious to reach agreement and act together for permanent changes to take place. The sub-conscious is an amazingly powerful part of us, it is our instinct, and the gut feeling we have that urges us to do something. What deals with the everyday things like our breathing, what keeps our heart beating and circulates the blood, it is done by our sub-conscious. It listens to you, if you tell yourself you are overweight it will oblige. However it will also listen and oblige if you tell yourself you are your perfect weight. For this reason, your sub-conscious is vital to any changes that you want to make in your life. The sub-conscious never sleeps, it is always awake performing tasks and operating the body. We absorb millions of pieces of information, yet only a small part of these come through the conscious mind, the rest are filtered, and yes you know where now.
